Low Cost Counselling

If you are on a low income and the cost of counselling will cause you financial stress, a student counsellor might be a good option for you.

The training to be a counsellor and psychotherapist takes place over a minimum of 4 years.  During that time trainees undergo rigorous and closely supervised skills practice.  During the final two years of the training, the student will accumulate 120 hours of face to face counselling with clients while in an agency placement.  The students here at the Banbury Therapy Centre are undergoing this final training.

Before clients are placed with a student counsellor, they will first be assessed by a qualified therapist to ensure that the issue brought is appropriate for a student to work with. If the assessor believes the client would get the best experience from a student counsellor, we would then endeavour to arrange appointments going forward. Our low-cost option provides a service of 6 sessions with a view to reviewing this as and when required.  Any extension of this service will be discussed and agreed by the trainee together with the clinical lead.

If the assessor felt the client would be more suited to working with a qualified therapist, they may be referred to any of the Therapy Centre’s members who offer concessions, or they would aim to signpost to the most appropriate organisation who may be able to help.

The cost of working with a student is £25 per 50-minute session and is payable in person at the Banbury Therapy Centre or online by pressing the below button.
