Course outline

This is a robust and ethical course, led by experienced counselling tutors who support students to develop active listening skills and learn about significant life events and relationship patterns. We have an unusually high student/tutor ratio as we limit all our groups to a maximum of 12 people.

The course covers some basic concepts of counselling theory, develops practical skills, teaches the skill of mindful listening, and challenges students to question their pre-conceived ideas and assumptions. By the end of the course students will understand themselves better and be able to support others to do the same.  This course will give you a foundation of knowledge, skills and competencies to use listening skills ethically and safely in a variety of contexts and roles.

“I have been very impressed with the Banbury Courselling Academy since I joined. Everyone is very helpful and kind, which is very much appreciated when you are new to something.”
— Level 2 student, 2021

This qualification is for:

  • Those starting the first level of training as a professional counsellor.

  • Those who want to learn counselling skills for professional or helping roles.

  • Those who want to improve their professional and personal relationships as part of personal development.

Level 2 is intended for candidates who want to help others either in a voluntary or an employed situation. This level won’t teach you to be a counsellor but is the first step on the 4 year training to be a professional therapist. It is particularly well suited to those who work with people in roles such as nursing, staff development, social work, teaching, voluntary work and human resources and those wishing to embark on a career as a counsellor or psychotherapist.
